Barrier CT Pro

Read the test, then the price.

Our full-protection fabric technology. Independently tested. Fully published.

Barrier CT Pro — The Test
15,000
mm H₂O · JIS L 1092
62,000+ Testing equipment maximum — fabric still dry
50,000 Minimum for Barrier CT Pro
30,000 Where most hardshell tests stop
20,000 Heavy rain, sitting still
The test

Proven performance. Twice the industry standard.

  • What happens. Water pressure is pushed against the face of the fabric and raised steadily until water comes through. The result is the pressure at which it does.
  • Ours didn't. At 62,000mm the test ended because the equipment reached its limit, not because the fabric did. We don't know where Barrier CT Pro gives. We know it is higher than this.
  • What we ask for. Run it to the end. Report every sample, not the best one.

Field tested

Then we gave it to people who'd notice if it failed.

Conditions, duration, activity, verdict.Written by the tester and published as written, including the trips that sent the fabric back to development.

Cortazu
Five days, Scottish Highlands

Ned Helyar | Hiking expert
Heavy rain & wind during 6-hour hikes; 4–8°C; pack for the whole way.

Cortazu
Freeride touring, Tirol

Ernst Wagensveld | Outdoor gear tester
−10 to −20°C, working hard uphill, repeated transitions.

Barrier CT Pro Guarantee

Test what we measure. Promise what we deliver.

Two different things, in that order. The lab result tells you what the fabric did on the day it was tested. The guarantee is us standing behind it for two winters of real use.

PERFORMANCE REPORT
Barrier CT Pro — The full protocol
The full protocol

Everything you'd ask before buying. Answered up front.

Four tests, one fabric, all four at once. A construction that clears three and misses one doesn't carry the mark. Here is what gets measured, how each test is run, what we require, and what came back.

Independent laboratory Full report published Retested on every change
Waterproofness Whether rain stays out when it's driven hard and you're carrying a pack. 62,000+ mm
Waterproofness Whether rain stays out when it's driven hard and you're carrying a pack.
JIS L 1092 · 7.1 Method B Water pressure is applied to the face of the fabric at 100 kPa/min, distilled water at 20±3°C. We require the test to run until water comes through — not to stop at the pass mark.
50,000 mm H₂O
62,000+ mm H₂O Test rig reached its maximum. The fabric had not let water through.
Water repellency Whether the outer face beads water or soaks it up. Grade 5
Water repellency Whether the outer face beads water or soaks it up.
JIS L 1092 · 7.2 spray rating A standardised spray is directed at the treated face fabric and the surface is graded from 1 to 5.
Grade 5
Grade 5 The highest grade on the scale.
Breathability Whether sweat gets out while you're working hard uphill. 20,000+ g/m²/24h
Breathability Whether sweat gets out while you're working hard uphill.
JIS L 1099 · Method B-1 Moisture vapour moving from the inside out through the laminate, measured over 24 hours.
20,000 g/m²/24h
20,000+ g/m²/24h Cleared the threshold for high-output use.
Abrasion resistance Whether the face fabric survives pack straps, harnesses and rock. 50,000+ rubs

JIS L 1096 The face fabric is rubbed against a standard surface to a defined end point and checked for structural failure.
